How To Eliminate Unwanted FUPA (Fat Upper Pubic Area)

Today, I shed light on a particular word, FUPA, that most women deal with but feel hesitant to discuss in an open forum with anyone around. You may have come across the term FUPA either online or from any fitness community group. Now the question arises, what is FUPA?

FUPA is an acronym for “fatty upper pubic area,” which refers to fatty tissue accumulation on the upper part of the pelvic region, located above the mons pubis, an area that develops pubic hair during sexual maturation known as puberty.

Although these areas are typically covered with clothing, they still show revealing attire to women in fitness outfits and swimwear, undermining their confidence in their bodily appearance. Here in the article, I discuss what a FUPA looks like, how to get rid of it, what the best exercises are, and so on.  So let’s understand it, which causes emotional distress and physical discomfort.

What Is FUPA?

Fat Upper Pubic Area (FUPA) is extra fat deposition just above the pubic bone that can cause issues with your self-esteem and become the reason for discomfort in some people. This is a common phenomenon affecting men and women, irrespective of weight and body type.

Hormonal changes, genetics, and weight fluctuation are the reasons that cause FUPA, which is most prevalent among women, while men also face it to some extent.

What does a FUPA look like?

The accumulation of fat in the pelvic area is becoming noticeable while women are wearing bathing suits, leggings, tight clothing, and gym clothes. As a matter of fact, women feel uncomfortable and a feeling of being ashamed of their social lives together.

Where Is FUPA On A Woman?

FUPA may be seen among women, especially after C-section delivery or childbirth, while weight gain is noticeable. It is more common among women who eventually end up with excess folding of skin noticeable just above the pubic area. If you are someone who undergoes the FUPA situation, then you do not need to be ashamed of your looks, as many are in the same boat. All you need to do is consult with a medical practitioner who guides you in losing your FUPA.

What Causes a FUPA?

Fat deposition in the upper pubic area is governed by several factors, like weight, pregnancy, hormones, ageing, and genetics. Gaining an insight into each of these factors helps to cope with the FUPA challenges if properly tackled.

Genetics: Any individual, if genetically predisposed, can face consequences of fat disposition, including in the pubic area.

Fluctuation of body weight: Drastic loss or gain of fat is interwoven with the consequences of excess fat deposition in the pubic area. Weight fluctuation is also expediting the skin elasticity, which overall becomes a cause of the issue with FUPA.

Childbirth and pregnancy: Pregnancy is a period in a woman’s reproductive health during which extra fat accumulation is naturally seen among women to support the overall fetal development. Hence, it can be concluded that pregnancy and childbirth are also linked with FUPA, while the abdomen is stretched out to support and nurture the growing baby inside the mother’s womb.

Hormonal imbalance: Hormonal imbalance, especially with cortisol and oestrogen, is also interlinked with excess fat deposition in the upper pubic areas.

Why Do I Have A FUPA If I Am Skinny?

Although it seems impossible for skinny people to have FUPA, it is seen among them in certain contexts, as summarized below.

Genetic predisposition: Genetic predisposition tends to cause fat deposition in the pubic area, rendering its development regardless of body weight and the BMI of a person.

Unmanageable stress: The unmanageable stress is causing an elevation of the stress hormone cortisol, resulting in fat storage instead of burning out. The accumulated fat is creating noticeable FUPA in skinny people while stored in the pubic area.

Hormonal imbalance: There are hormonal fluctuations among women during menopause that are also interlinked with the development of this.

Rapid change of weight: An abrupt loss and gain of weight can cause a stretching of skin and render the skin to lose its elasticity, making FUPA noticeable even among skinny people.

Do Both Men and Women Get FUPA?

Yes, definitely, FUPA can be seen in both men and women in the upper pubic area, where excess fat is deposited. The reasons behind it in males and females are quite similar, mostly stemming from aging, genetic predisposition, weight fluctuation, and hormonal changes.

Women are mostly susceptible to developing this during cesarean delivery or pregnancy, causing abdominal muscle stretching to support and nurture the growing baby. Men are witnessing FUPA due to lower testosterone levels, weight gain, and aging, causing accumulation of fat and a rise in muscle mass.

How Do You Get Rid of FUPA?

Myriad options are helping an individual to get rid of mons pubis fat, which are enumerated as follows. Exercise, surgery, non-invasive treatment, and last but not least, lifestyle changes are beneficial for bringing a reduction in mons pubis fat accumulation.

  • Diet and regular exercise: When it comes to body fat reduction, taking a balanced diet and exercising regularly helps to manage excess body fat, especially in FUPA areas. Taking a balanced diet that has an option to consume lean proteins, vegetables, and fruits helps in sustaining weight management. Avoiding saturated fats, sugar, processed food, and carbonated drinks is significant. Doing exercise regularly, working out, and cardio exercises help to build muscle and burn excess fat. Doing exercises daily by targeting the lower abdomen portion helps to make it less noticeable.
  • Non-invasive Fat Freezing: Cryolipolysis, or Fat Freezing, is a process that helps reduce fat. The process practically involves maintaining a cooling that will aid in the elimination of fat cells, without causing any damage to the surrounding cells.
  • Non-invasive Treatment with radiofrequency: Leveraging energy waves by heating the deep skin layer is also an effective solution to reduce fat and overall tighten skin. It is ideal for reducing fat with minimal discomfort, making it ideal and well-tolerated for people having FUPA.
  • Invasive Mons Pubis Liposuction: Fat removal by liposuction from the area of the mons pubis provides noticeable and faster removal of unwanted fat.

What Are the Best FUPA Exercises?

There are some exercises surely worthwhile, helping you to burn excel fat, making FUPA less noticeable, and also tightening up the areas of fat accumulation. Some of the exercises are mentioned below.

  • High Planks
  • Leg raises
  • Pelvic tilts
  • Bicycle crunches

What Are the Best FUPA Surgeries?

Monsplasty: Monsplasty is an invasive procedure that involves bringing about a reduction of the mons pubis size by the process of fat and skin removal. It is a prominent solution for those who are experiencing FUPA due to aging and genetic predisposition. Meanwhile, the final result of Monsplasty is smoother, giving a well-proportional pubic area among women.

Mons Pubis Liposuction: Many people are troubled with their excess fat deposition in the pubic area, and mons pubis liposuction stands out as an ideal solution to remove excessive fat without causing an issue with skin laxity with this less invasive technique with minimal scarring.

Abdominoplasty: It is a surgical procedure that helps to bring about a reduction of excessive fat and skinny part in the area of the abdomen, helping to bring about an overall tightening of abdominal muscles. This invasive procedure may create a firmer and flatter abdomen, making a comprehensive solution for this.

Final Thought

Removal of unwanted fat among women by following surgical procedures(Monsplasty, Mons Pubis Liposuction, Abdominoplasty) provides an opportunity to maintain a desirable contour of body appearance, by restoring their physical appearance, most likely after pregnancy.

Although the fat reduction from certain body areas initially seems frustrating, maintaining regular exercise, lifestyle change, and patience is key to train of exactly what you are craving for with your body’s appearance. Being mindful of food choices and destressing through meditation are ideal if you really want to make your FUPA less noticeable.
